Outdoor Wednesday … Jeff’s Outdoor Camera

Welcome to Outdoor Wednesday.. Hosted by the Sweet & Lovely Georgia Hostess Susan @ A Southern Daydreamer.  Each week on Wednesday we get to showcase some of our Outdoor Adventures from all over.. Hop on over to Susan’s and tag along with everyone.. You’ll be amazed at the beauty you’ll see!Outdoor_Wednesday_logo

This is one of Jeff’s little toys.. It’s called a Game Cam. Ashley gave him this for Christmas a few years ago and he loves it as much as I love my camera. You’re all about to see why…

100_5327

He uses it to monitor things at a couple of his hunting camps.. Because it is an expensive lil toy he built a few of these nice secure boxes all around the property to house it in.. The secure boxes help shelter the Camera from the weather.. plus they make it harder for trespassers to walk off with them.

Each week Jeff goes out and removes the SIM card from the camera and replaces it with another cleared SIM card. Depending on what pictures he may or may not have captured on film from the previous week.. he may move the camera to another spot he wants to monitor with hopefully a bit more action.

 100_5328 100_5317

Below are some images from his camp.. and some from others who use game cameras to monitor as well. Now these are all things you expect to see when using a game cam.. but imagine his surprise when last week he went to change out his card and found something inside his secured lil box… it’s not scary.. I promise.. you can look!

He found this all tucked neatly inside his camera box. What is it? Keep scrolling down..

Here’s a closer look..

Four Little Baby Birdie Eggs!! Not sure what kind.. but hopefully the same fate won’t fall upon these beauties as did the ones in our own yard last month. Take a look at this awesome nest…

100_5306

I’ve tried to make the picture larger so you all can see all the neat things they used in making the nest. Yep that’s a snake skin… moss.. deer hair.. twigs.. pine needles.. you name it.. it’s in there.

100_5316

Look how they were getting in and out.. lol that little hole is a welcome mat if ever I saw one. Jeff wasn’t to crazy about missing out on getting photos of his turkey movement over the next month .. while waiting for these lil guys hatch and go off on their own.. but there is where they’ll stay til they are.

100_5329 100_5313

He put everything back the way he found it.. In a few weeks I may go out with him on his next SIM card swap…Ummm wait it’s still summer .. still hot.. and deep down in the undisturbed shaded woods where snakes love to be… Umm on second thought Ashley did so well taking these photos.. We’ll just send her back with him!

Happy Wednesday Y’all

  1. Debbie - I just LOVE it! I thought you were just going to show the picture of a large deer or a fawn and you totally surprised me. What a great post! My son uses a camera to capture deer on our farm. It is such fun to see them. I enjoy watching them during all seasons. Thanks for sharing and have a good rest of the week.

  10. What neat pictures you've captured with your game cam! But is that a raccoon riding a javelina? What a hoot. And that bird knew a safe place when she saw one, didn't she? Can't wait to see what hatches. But I'm with you, I'd leave the legless wildlife for someone else to find, thank you very much. Thanks for sharing these fun pictures! Kathy

  14. Debbie, those pictures are just WONDERFUL!

Is that a raccoon on the back of a wild hog??? I can't see what animal that is it's climbed on the back of as it's dark. Oh, this is a neat thing, and your bird eggs are gorgeous.

I do believe I want a game camera. I wonder what wild game would capture in the city? Probably drunks in St. Augustine. LOL!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  16. Reminds me of the time my husband went up the mountain to the radio transmitter that wasn't working for the radio station he was engineering for. He found a huge black snake laying on the vent to let out the heat. It caused it to overheat and put the station off the air.

I am so glad you only found eggs and snakeskin but no snake!

  23. Oh my gosh - that camera is the coolest thing! Is that a raccoon on a wild hog? Love the bird's nest (sorry for your hubby though) but I must say the snake's skin freaked me out a little. I have a horrible paranoia. I hope you'll share other images from that cool camera again someday!

    Happy Outdoor Wednesday!

  31. Creatures of nature are the original repurposers. Look how they've made a nest from things they accumulated along the way! How sweet! We can learn a lot from them. Gather as you go. Use what you have. They don't have a credit card to hop into a store for nesting materials! Yes, I've learned a lot here. But no snake skins in my nest!

  32. Oh my, I think you have just helped me decide what to get my husband for our anniversary. He would LOVE one of those for our farm. What spectacular pics and loved the birds nest too. Birds will nest just about anywhere. Not long ago we had one to nest up under our tractor seat in our barn. I enjoyed your post.
