Outdoor Wednesday … 2009 Sunflower Festival

This week I’m sharing a visit to the Holt Family Farm Sunflower Festival..

The Sunflower Festival is held in Rutledge Georgia. Which is about 40 miles east of Atlanta.. and only minutes from my home. This is an annual event and is always on the 4th of July weekend.

It has become a very popular festival in Georgia.

Located on a 15-acre glorious sunflower farm, the festival features fields of sunflowers that you can cut.. prices start at $5.00 a bundle. There are huge shade covered Vendor Tents, live music, an antique tractor parade, a kids' play area, and delicious summer time food.

The Ronay Guide .. which is a guide to all southern festivals.. calls the Sunflower Festival "The most beautiful festival setting ever!” I can see why!

I hope you enjoyed our trip to the Sunflower Festival… If you’re in the area next year, it’s a festival well worth attending.  Make sure you bring your camera.. and a wagon to haul all the sunflowers you’ll be picking to take home! 5328_1158305768190_1544149267_30719551_6451281_n

  1. That looks like a fun day. Your pictures are great. I love the ones with the butterflies. We tried to plant sun flowers, but did not get enough rain for them to grow.

  2. Hi Debbie, this is the kind of thing hubby and I love to do - outdoor fleas, and craft fairs, but to be in the midst of beautiful sunflowers and butterflies is something we would never forget! You were so lucky to have gone.

  19. I think I'll be visiting my cousins in Covington next July! What a fun looking festival, I love sunflowers, but then who doesn't?

Are you going to the Atlanta Art Festival in September? If you are, look for my cousin-in-law Richard Jacobus of Frog Island Metal Works. I know there are a number of churches in the surrounding Atlanta area that have his work. I believe you would enjoy his work.

  20. Wow, what a great place to visit!! Beautiful photos.
We had a fairly large vegetable garden, at the farm. Some years we planted a variety of sunflowers and zinnia's, at one end of the garden. Those zinnia's you plant next year will not only draw the butterflies, but you will have beautiful cutting flowers for your home!

    Great post!
