Goodbye for now ... My Darling Little Binks

Until one has loved an animal,
part of their soul remains unawakened...

Today I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life. To keep her from suffering due to unrepairable kidney and liver failure, I had to make the decision to have My Precious Lil Binks put to sleep.
I was there for her first breath of life 10 years ago.. and there
holding her as she took her last breath today.
I am filled with an indescribable sadness..
Run freely in those fields of gold my precious lil Binks.. Mommie loves you and will miss you immensely.

  1. Hi Debbie,
I am up late tonight (very late).....just couldn't sleep. I decided to read blogs and I am sitting her with tears in my eyes and a huge lump in my throat. I am so sorry and I can only imagine how difficult this all is for you and your family. I have 3 sweet dogs and I can't bear to think about losing one of them.....although I know that is something that I will have to face. I have only recently started reading your blog. I don't blog but found you when I did a google search on cottage style. I have been hooked on your blog and several others ever since. I live in Savannah, Ga. My husband is a Methodist pastor and I am a teacher of special needs children. To say that my life is hectic is the understatment of the century. I am grateful that you share your home and your life with others. Reading your blog has given me some time of relaxation and refreshing and I appreciate it. I truly believe that just as we will one day be rejoined with those that we love in heaven..........we will be rejoined with our beloved 4 legged friends. The God we serve is too good to separate us from those that we love so much. I firmly believe that heaven will be a place beyond our imagination and filled with all those things that give us joy...........which certainly includes animals. Those of us who love our pets...understand your grief and I will be praying that you will be surrounded by the peace of Christ in the days to come. God Bless You and Your Family!

  2. Debbie, I'm so sorry... I, too, watched my only dog be born and learn of its death after school. It's like being punched in the gut for no reason at all. I hurt for so long that I couldn't even pet her siblings before they went off with their new owners. I'm so sorry...

I leave with you a great big hug to hopefully appease some of the sadness...

  4. Debbie, I'm so sorry to hear about your little Binks. My Hershey was with me for 16 years, and thank goodness I didn't have to make that decision. I don't know if I could have done it, even though it would have been the right thing to do. It's a short time that they are with us, but they make such an impact.

  5. Oh Debbie, my heart aches for you. Our dogs give us such unconditional love. I have been there, I held our sweet, goofy little Daisy (who looked much like your Binks!) when we had to put her down and again with my mother-in-law's Puddin. When our children were quite young, we lost a dear old Beagle dog. My daughter was especially hurt, so we talked with our minister and she asked if dogs go to Heaven. I was so moved with the minister recognize the grief in my daughter and told her "I cannot imagine Heaven without our precious pets." Special Prayers and Hugs for you today, dear friend.

  9. Debbie: This just breaks my heart! I am so, so sorry for your loss. I have three cats, all advanced age and I know the time is coming when I will face the same thing with them. Our pets are members of our family, and their loss is devestating! I will pray for you as you go through this terribly sad time.

  10. O Debbie.

I'm so very sorry for your loss and for this sadness. As one who cannot imagine life without our dear animal babies, my heart is with you. They are so very much a part of the fabric of our families.

I lost my oldest cat - age 18 - in January and I still can't reread my own blog about it or look into her precious face in the photo. This is the link if you want to read it. I know reading about what others have walked through sometimes helps me with my own process. http://robynnsravings.blogspot.com/2009/01/kitty-baby-love-story.html

You will know, I get it. I'll be praying for all of you today. It is a such a loss. Love you dear friend.

  13. Dear Cindy ...
    (The Anonymous Poster)

This was the only way I could figure out how to thank you.. so hopefully you'll find it.

Thank you so much for your kind words of comfort. The first thing I did after reading your post was bring my daughter in to read it. Last night at Church she was told by one of her Youth Group leaders that animals didn't go to Heaven because they didn't have a soul. She was devastated.. She had asked him to show her where in the bible it stated such a thing. Of course his response was I'm not sure where it says it .. BUT it Does! My Husband and I both reassured her that he was wrong .. and that we believed as you stated that God is a merciful God and that we as His servants shall be rewarded and joined again one day with ALL of those that we have loved and lost. I know that she believed us and felt comfort.. but sometimes they get it a lil better when someone else tells them the same. God knew she needed that lil extra reassurence and used you as an instrument in its delivery. So Thank You! Thank you for your prayers, message and for being a Christian Servant.
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  14. Debbie,
OK....I'm crying again....2 nights in a row! God is soooooo good and so amazing in the way He chooses to work. Thank you for sharing this with me. Since I am not a "blogger", I really have no idea what I am doing. I don't usually leave comments. I just read and enjoy. I have been praying and will continue to pray that healing comes to all of you. God is doing some interesting things in my life involving animals and children. I have been wondering if I was heading in the right direction and your post has confirmed it for me. My e-mail address is cindymeguiar@yahoo.com. God's blessings on you all.

  15. Debbie,
After I replied to your message I kept thinking and just got plain mad. What your daughter needed was comfort from the "leader" and not a theological discussion. I called my husband out and we talked. Ironically, several months ago, he was interviewed by someone going to vet school about this very topic(animals in heaven). My husband pointed me to Ecclesiastes 3: 18-21 ( in the NIV). ( I have never done a study on animals in heaven, it was just something I felt I KNEW in my heart). You may want to share that with your daughter. Also, if you go to rainbow bridge, there is a whole section with different scriptures that may be helpful for her. Another point that may help her is that the Bible never says that only those with souls go to heaven. When people begin talking about animals not having souls...they are confusing salvation(which is needed for those of us who have souls) with being present in heaven. Angels do not have souls, yet we know that they are in heaven. There are many other "arguements" that can be made for animals being present in heaven but the greatest one for me is that I have a peace in my heart about it. Forgive me for getting on my soapbox....but kids and animals are near and dear to my heart and when you put the 2 together( kids and animals) I can really get going. Steve and I will pray for you all....but especially your sweet girl! Blessings! Cindy
