Three Sleeping Babies

Over the years we've had 4 litters of Jack Russell pups.
These lil guys are from a litter we had back in 2005.


First up..
Ashley always picks a favorite from each litter..
It is always the one with the most energy.
This lil gal was her fav...
She called her Patches.


The only lil boy in the bunch..
Gunner.
He was a lil ham..


And last but not least..
Sweet lil Dottie.


You may have noticed the Elmo in each picture..
Since our very first litter I have always put
Sesame Street stuffed animals in with each litter.
Why Sesame Street ones?
Well.. I find that of all the dog toys
out there on the market..
even the ones marked Great Dane proof...
NONE compare when it comes to the durability
and lack of choke hazards than that
of a toddlers stuffed animal.
So I stock up at yard sales
on Elmos, Zoes & Cookie Monsters.
My reason for stocking up
and having them in the pups beds is that
I always worry about them having
separation anxiety after being separated from
their Mom, lil brothers and lil sisters.
So as each one goes off to his or her
new home they each take along with
them one of the Elmos.. Zoe's or
Cookie Monsters that has all
of their lil scents on em.
It helps me too.. knowing
in a strange new place they can still
have that one lil piece of comfort
that they can go to when they get scared.

soooo I thought what the heck

this looks like fun .. I'm in.

This is the picture I picked to enter for this week..

Last fall.. after a bit of arm twisting..
I convinced Ashley to come outside and
let me take a few pictures.
She hadn't had her braces on for very long
at this point and was still real insecure about smiling.
This particular shot was taken as I was attempting to
talk teenage slang to her... in hopes for a big teethy smile.

Metamorphosis Monday .. TV Stand

It's Metamorphosis Monday time again..

As I stated a few weeks ago Jeff

and I have been giving our home

a bit of a facelift.

When we first married I had a love for

the country pine look... that has

since changed.. Thank You Jesus!

Now I can't stand the look of it and

after seeing all the

yard sale finds, flea market deals

that everyone in blogland was

morphing and beautifying

with just a lil black paint..

I couldn't resist to fall

victim to the trend.

So here is my next installment of

From Pine To Fine..

An old TV Stand that has the strength to carry

the weight of those big bulky 200 lb dinosaur TV sets.


I really do love the pieces .. just hate the finish.
This one as well as all of the other pine pieces I own
were made by a local man who did this as a hobby.


After washing it down to remove the 10 years worth
of storage dust I sanded it down really well.


Then I primed it..
Tacky brass hardware an all!
I would have removed the hinges but
they weren't put on with screws..
he used nails.
I had bad experiences with nail
removal... So I left them be.

I know all of you folks up north are really gonna hate
me for this next lil bit .. and I do apologize..
BUT.. we folks in Georgia have really been blessed
with some beautiful days the last few weeks
so I've been able to complete a lot
of my tasks outside.



My Handy Dandy Husband picked out
this paint at Lowe's and told me this is what I needed for
my transformation.
I think he knew what he was doing..
because I think it turned out great.

Excuse the walls.. as I explained earlier..

we're in the middle of that facelift.

This piece will go in Ashley's room..

which is getting a new doo also... and serve

as her new TV stand.

New decor theme for her room is

zebra so I think it'll fit in perfectly.

Grandmothers Serving Bowl..

This is my one and only vintage pieces

of china. It belonged to my

Grandmother Maude and was

given to me 17 years ago just

before Jeff and I married.

The flowers are a bit faded...but still beautiful.

There's 1 small nick under the rim .. not

visible from top view.

J 50 N 8
Stamped on the bottom of bowl.
After a lil research I found out the the 50
meant the year it was made and the
N 8 was code for where it was made.




After searching hundreds and hundreds of pictures today
of Homer Laughlin pieces I found
1 piece which was a Vegetable Bowl.
It was the same size.. 9" in diameter
and had the same floral pattern with the amber
ring around the rim.. but the rim design differed a bit
and it was called
Eggshell Nautilus Dresden Pattern.
I finally gave up..
Nautilus.. Dresden.. Homer Laughlin
it was all greek to me..
The important thing.. it was Grandma's
and it is priceless to me.

Honestly.. I really don't recall

ever looking at the stamp on the bottom of

the dish until today lol.

I know that every time I see it

I remember my Grandma's

Sunday dinner table.

This beautiful bowl filled with the best

mashed potatoes or best green beans you

ever put in your mouth.

If only I could do it the same justice.

Since Valentine's Day

is Saturday

I decided to take time off

from working on

the house today..

and make some

treats for my daughter

and some of

her friends.

Normally I bake my own goodies...

but this year

my kitchen is a wreck with our

remodel project going on

so I headed out to

Target for a lil help.

I picked up a few different

kinds of candy

and a few things

from the dollar section.

I got this idea last week

from my local grocery store.

I saw these cute little

Candy Bouquets they

had for sale.. not cheap at all.

The prices ranged from

15-20 dollars ea and

had very little candy in them.

Last month I did a major clean

out of glassware from

my cupboards and had actually

boxed up these vases to

send to our local Goodwill store.

I dug out a couple of the smaller ones

from the box and

grabbed a bag of skewers that

I already had and began my lil project.

I hot glued different pieces of candy to
the wooden skewers.
I bought the assorted bags of candy

and spent a lil
less than $11.oo for all the candy.

Found these lil note pads and pens
in the dollar section at Target.


Some of Ashley's friends will get this lil set in a small gift bag.
For her closest BFF's I glued them to some skewers and added them to the candy bouquets.

I have 3 more of these to make.

Larger Bouquet for her Favorite Teacher.

All finished and ready

to take to school.

From Pine to Fine..

A couple of weeks ago Jeff and I started on

a major facelift in our home.

As I packed away Christmas decor earlier in the year

I also started packing away things in our home in preparation

for this fun event.

We are doing everything.. from floors to the ceilings.

With the economy.. less hours at work and a soon-to-be

driving teenager we couldn't afford to buy new furniture, so

I headed out in Blogland and searched for ideas on how to

give the old stuff a new look.

The Pine Clock

Nothing fancy..

The mechanics are just a simple clock kit

with a vinyl face

but it was one of the

first things given to me by my Mother to

start my first home back in 1988.

I couldn't have asked for a more

beautiful day for working outside..

So as Jeff did yard work

I started off with the clock by sanding it down..

Taped up the glass..

and wiped it down with a tack cloth.


Used a can of inexpensive black primer
from Wal-Mart.

Rolled it using a
fast drying semi gloss black latex.

Once it was dry...

I took my lil sanding block and gave it a

few swipes to give it that worn look.

I replaced the white ceramic knobs with

antique brass ones and
Voila

All finished and awaiting it's new spot in our

freshly painted den.

As you can tell in some of the pictures above..

the paint is still wet around the windows.
